How Invicta is Building a Modern Day Watch Empire

I have been paying close attention to Invicta's growth over the last few years. It seems to me that Invicta has been a very busy bee. They have acquired a couple brands, and bought the rights to the name of a brand called S. Coifman, which will be produced in house. Not too bad for a brand that almost went out of business after the Quartz Revolution in the early seventies.

The brands that Invicta have acquired are pretty well known too. They are Technomarine, and Glycine. Both brands have had their fair share of economic woes, but to be fair – they weren't being managed as well as they could have been either. Technomarine was the first brand to fall under the auspices of the Invicta group, and since then the company has been doing better with sales figures on the rise. To be honest, I thought Invicta would have changed up the brand's aesthetic model and made some gargantuan timepieces as is the Invicta way. I was, in fact, pleasantly surprised when I saw Technomarine launching some pretty measured timepieces that adhered to the aesthetic that we've come to expect from that brand.

Glycine is a more recent acquisition. Glycine was owned and operated by an independent Swiss family for many years before the buy over. Their biggest contribution to the watchmaking world was a watch called the Airman, which featured a 24-hour dial. Once again, Invicta has shown no intention of altering the brand's DNA. This is good news to long time Glycine fans, who were less than happy at the news of the takeover. It is still too early to know how the brand will fare under Invicta's management but with the marketing genius of Eyal Lalo behind it, I expect the brand to be reinvigorated in the short term at least.

Lastly, we'll touch briefly on S. Coifman, which was not producing watches at the time of the purchase. S. Coifman had some time in the spotlight, but it's Tabula Rasa right now as far as Invicta's management with the brand. These watches are large, and quite a bit a dressier than Invicta's lines. I feel the need to say that I am optimistic though about the repositioning of S. Coifman going forward.

Discount Watch Store CEO and Founder, Zai Zhu, has reported positive sales figures for all brands under the Invicta portfolio so we'll have to see if their success is long term.
